Food Drool

Today we are going to do a short style inspo post. Just this time it will be about the FOOD (my favorite subject, of course!). As I am a strong believer that eating is a very sensual experience, visual representation must be somewhat better than what you might see in the bowl of your pet. It is absolutely not necessary to spend hours arranging your plate and finding the perfect silver fork to go with it. You don’t need to learn how to carve chocolate figurines, or create a fancy jam design on a big white plate. Be simple, use what you have and make your family and friends drool!

Kitchen’s gods and goddesses… #3 Banana / Virtuvės dievai ir dievaitės… #3 Bananas

# 3 Banana

Time has come to say – let’s go bananas about bananas! Yes, it’s redundant, but we love it. This delicious fruit is a gift from the tropics and we shall enjoy it, people. Banana proudly sits on our Mount Olympus for its many qualitites, including, but not limited to – natural healthy “sugar bomb”, antidepressant, PMS savior. You need more reasons? People say….rubing your teeth for two minutes with the inside of the banana peel may whiten them (but I have’t tried it, so you let me know!)

It is Mother’s Day, Slackers! / Motinos diena, Tinginiai!

If you are not living under the rock (or are not a soulless person who forgets this kind of day), you have to be familiar with a fact that this Sunday is the day to celebrate our beloved, fabulous, amazingly fantastic and gorgeous Mommies! Even though I love my Mother to bits, it happens that not always I can show how much I appreciate her and, especially, give her all my time. Unfortunately, due to my hectic schedule and chaotic personality (to be honest, just because of my chaotic AND hectic personality), I leave everything for the last day and I have to come up with the ideas how to surprise my Mom almost on the spot! So here you are a couple of little things how to make this Sunday lovely, pleasant and memorable to your stunning Moms.

Kitchen’s gods and goddesses… #2 Avocado / Virtuvės dievai ir dievaitės… #2 Avokadas

#2 Avocado

Number two among our Kitchen’s gods is AVOCADO. This super-fruit earned its place on Healthier Kitchen’s Mount Olympus for its smooth nutty flavor, versatility and, of course, nutritious value. Remember guacamole from your last trip to a Mexican Restaurant? Well, after reading this post, smashed avocados will shine in a whole different [green] light.

Kitchen’s gods and goddesses / Virtuvės dievai ir dievaitės

Some food items become part of kitchen’s interior. They wouldn’t leave and we can’t imagine a “normal” kitchen without them. They are like gods and goddesses, just sitting there at all times. For example, when I was growing up we ALWAYS had milk, eggs, sugar and bread. Now I have replaced those gods with new ones and am eager to share with you my nominees for the place on the Healthier Kitchen’s Mount Olympus.

Scream for Ice Cream

Assorted Ice Cream Flavors

Be to, jie kaip tik atsidarė netoli Ispaniškų laiptelių – puiki vieta mėgautis savo ledais, stebint chaotiškus žmonės, bandančius įsiamžinti šalia ispaniškų laiptelių.

Fatamorgana

rome-fatamorgana

I Caruso

i-caruso-lab

Ši gelateria nuostabi savo laboratorija, esančia tiesiog kitapus stiklo, kas leidžia stebėti visą kūrybinį procesą. Ir, žinoma, ledai yra tiesiog nuodėmingai skanūs! To go skonis būtų braškinis ir tai nėra šerbetas ar pernelyg pieninis skonis, bet įsivaizduokite, kad valgote dubenį šviežių braškių, ir jūs jau čia. Via Collina 13-15

San Crispino

Rome_Snack_GelateriadiSanCrispino_3

This morning while making my way through crowds and coping with my frustration with labour strikes, I have noticed that the summer is coming to Rome. All shamefully undressed tourists, Italians little by little getting off their heavy coats and putting on their lighter jackets and trench coats and every billboard shouts 25 degrees Celsius. That means just one thing – it is a time for gelato!!!! And oh, boy, I love my gelato… Seriously, if there is another way to achieve an orgasm than sex, it must be gelato. C’mon, it is definitely the sexiest dessert ever! You cannot argue about this one. But let’s move on to the actual gelato.

First of all, let’s make it clear that gelato is not an ice cream. These are two different desserts, produced in two different ways, using different ingredients and served different temperature (yep, I am gelato nazi).

Originally, gelato comes from Sicily, and becomes a hit after Medici family brings fame to it in Florence. That is why Florence is the legit capital of gelato and where it was initially started to produced it by “modern” way using milk, cream and eggs. However, Rome has its own jewels to compete with a capital of Renaissance.

Gelateria dei Gracchi

This is my personal choice. I just love this place. Last summer it was my place to go every time I passed it walking home from work. Here you will get all the classics: pistachio, banana, zabaione etc. And they all are just incredible. Do not waste your time looking for strawberry flavour if it is not a season – all gelato are flavoured by seasonal products. The nutty flavours are especially fantastic – I am crazy for pistachio which you can choose from all different regions. Good news that they have just recently opened not far away from Piazza di Spagna – great place to sit down with your gelato and to observe a chaotic environment.

Fatamorgana

I was lucky enough to live near this hot spot so it makes possible to try all the masterpieces, just take your time, because there are loads of them! It is one of the most experimenting gelaterias in Rome: ginger, beer, gorgonzola and hundreds and hundreds of different type of chocolate tastes – YUM! The best thing that one of their shops is located in Monti – the neighbourhood where you find all the best wineries beside the fact that it is just a hip place to be so Fatamorgana becomes just another reason to spent drunk and delicious evening there.

Il Gelato di Claudio Torce

This is the king of nontraditional gelato! Wasabi, rice, beer and peanuts – just name it! This is a true kingdom: starting from classics and getting to the most extreme. This is a great place to celebrate your fruitful shopping session in Via del Corso where Clausio invites you to have a sinful experience.

I Caruso

Curious to see gelato laboratory? Head to I Caruso! Just behind the glass you can see where the magic happens. Of course, gelato talks by itself. To go taste would be strawberries! It seems that you eat fresh strawberries. So naughty!

San Crispino

These guys are not kidding about gelato. So if you are a big cone fan, just choose something different, because here you do not get it. They are strong believers that cone just interferes with the original flavour of gelato. Do not be surprised that you cannot see gelato while you are closing it. It is believed that to keep gelato fresh and rich you have keep it inside the closed bins and put deep inside the fridge. All gelato are made from 100% natural ingredients either. All in all, this is paradise in a cup!

Get naughty and enjoy your gelato!
